Baita Kedo is located in Piero, in the ancient village of stone houses in the heart of Val Veddasca (a Site of Community Importance in the European Natura 2000 Network and a UNESCO MAB Reserve). After being abandoned in the post-war years, the village was revitalized by young people who arrived in the 1960s from Milan and Northern Europe. Its position along the banks of the Giona stream (which flows through Val Veddasca before entering Lake Maggiore in the municipality of Maccagno) and its fame are attributed to the famous Mulini di Piero, dating back to before 1700, which are now the subject of study and intervention by the Mountain Community of Valli del Verbano. Baita Kedo was established in 1987 as a family-run farm, raising Nera di Verzasca goats (a cross-border Interreg project between Italy and Switzerland for the protection of an at-risk breed), free-range cattle, and pigs, producing local cheeses and cured meats (including the Formaggella del Luinese, the first DOP cheese made from raw goat's milk). Later, the farm evolved into an agriturismo offering dining, lodging, and educational activities recognized as a Didactic Farm by the Lombardy Region and part of the WWF’s Panda Farms network. Today, Baita Kedo operates as a restaurant, maintaining a strong focus on local specialties and the enhancement of local products, as well as serving as a holiday home. Events are organized in the former barn, as was the case in previous years for the Alpine festival and specifically for the Sentiero Italia, with numerous initiatives. The property features a large terrace with a garden and excellent WIFI connectivity.
