The penultimate Molise stage of the Sentiero Italia has an intermediate length and minimal elevation gain. It reaches San Pietro Avellana, which can be considered on the watershed of the Apennines, since within its territory the Rio stream originates, a tributary of the Sangro that flows into the Adriatic, and the Vandra river, a tributary of the Volturno that flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea. From Carovilli, a steep ascent leads to the summit of Monte Ingotta at 1189 meters, from where you descend past the base of Monte Rizzi. Passing to the east of Monte di Mezzo along the Celano – Foggia tratturo, you skirt the homonymous UNESCO MAB nature reserve before reaching the day's destination.
