This very long and challenging stage, with a truly remarkable elevation gain, leads the Sentiero Italia through Val Chisone, showcasing interesting high mountain scenery. From the Massello lodge, proceed uphill to the village of Balsiglia, where the most heroic event of the Glorious Return took place, as the Waldensians resisted the siege of the Piedmontese troops throughout the winter of 1689-1690. This feat is commemorated in a pleasant museum worth visiting. Then begins the strenuous ascent that passes at the feet of the majestic Cascata del Pis, continuing along the overlooking plateau up to Colle dell'Albergian at an elevation of 2710 meters. Here begins a long descent, first in the presence of the summit of Albergian, and then through a series of shepherd huts down to the village of Laux with its tranquil lake, and finally to Usseaux.
