A rather long segment with a significant elevation gain takes the Sentiero Italia into the enchanted Val Viola in high Valtellina. Shortly after leaving the Rifugio Malghera, the trail climbs steeply, passing by the Bivacco Pian del Lago and continuing up to the Passo di Vermolera at an elevation of 2732 meters. Then comes a steep descent down to the Laghi di Tres, where the ascent resumes, passing by Lago Nero until reaching Capanna Dosde' at 2824 meters above sea level. The second steep descent of the day quickly leads into the valley of the same name, where after crossing a small bridge, one arrives at the welcoming Rifugio Federico In Dosde'.
