Hiking
From the slopes overlooking the Valtellina, one moves into the remote Val Grosina with a moderately long stage and a gentle elevation change. Starting from the Schiazzera Refuge and following the Military Mule Track from World War I, the route ascends to the very cold Lago Schiazzera. Continuing along the mule track, the path heads eastward with a slight descent, passing by Alpe Salina, until reaching the slopes that overlook the Western Val Grosina. Still following the mule track, one arrives at Alpe Piana, which has now been renovated into a summer-managed refuge. After leaving the refuge, a comfortable flat forest trail leads to Alpe Guinzana and then to the locality of Grasso di Pedruna. The journey continues along a winding path to Malghera, a characteristic mountain pasture dominated by the Sanctuary of the Mother of Mercy with its imposing bell tower and the nearby large structure Fabbriceria, which is now a managed refuge.
