Hiking
With this medium-length leg and a descent-only elevation change, the Sentiero Italia descends into the plains and reaches the city of Isernia, the historic capital of the Samnium region. From the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sorrows in Castelpetroso, the trail descends to the underlying plain and proceeds northwest, parallel to the SS 17 main road, along cultivated fields interspersed with woods. It then passes at the base of the village of Pettoranello del Molise, where it turns west until reaching Isernia.
