The G. B. Zucchelli - Bruzzone Shelter is located on Mount Penello, in the territory of Genoa. The shelter, which was in a state of disrepair, has been renovated by the Sottosezione CAI - ULE of Sestri Ponente. This structure, a former German ammunition depot previously used as a hiking shelter, has been revitalized through the dedication of many volunteers, including the addition of external furnishings (benches and tables). Since its inauguration in 2018, the shelter has been made available to numerous hikers who increasingly visit the area. Some testimonies can be found in the guest books located inside. The shelter is equipped with a stove, table, benches, and LED lighting provided by a small solar panel. There are also 6 foldable bunks available. Unfortunately, there are no mattresses or blankets since the scarcity of water and the lack of continuous maintenance would not allow for adequate upkeep. Firewood for the stoves is also hard to find on-site due to the deteriorating access road which no longer permits off-road vehicles to supply the wood storage. Drinking water can be found 15 minutes downhill at the spring known as “Fontanin da Scaggia.” The shelter is always open and is maintained by the Sottosezione CAI - ULE of Sestri Ponente, within the limits of available resources.
