The Marco and Raimondo Balicco Refuge is located at 1963 m.a.s.l., in the heart of the Alta Val Brembana. The structure is immersed in the Azzaredo-Casù Forest of Lombardia and belongs to the Municipality of Mezzoldo (BG). It is a mixed wooden and stone building, harmonizing well with the context and typical constructions of Bergamasque culture. Inaugurated only in July 2015, it is the latest addition among the Bergamasque alpine refuges. Recently, the refuge was co-named after Raimondo, who passed away in 2020, ensuring that his name will remain linked in memory to that of his brother Marco, who also led the town of Alta Val Brembana for many years. This is a fitting tribute to someone who cared deeply for and contributed significantly to the mountains, especially in Mezzoldo. The Marco and Raimondo Balicco Refuge is situated at the entrance to the beautiful and solitary glacial pasture hollow of Azzaredo. The structure is located in front of the Laghetti hut and just below the Zamboni bivouac, alongside which runs the 101 trail of the Western Orobie Mountains. In the nearby peat bogs of the “wet pastures,” some prehistoric artifacts have been found, along with numerous rock engravings, revealing the archaeological significance of this vast alpine area and its ancient history of habitation. The refuge offers 12 beds.
