While one branch of the Sentiero Italia Cai continues east within the territory of the Province of Trento, this moderately long stage with a gentle elevation gain takes the variant that crosses the Autonomous Province of Bolzano further north. From Rifugio Potzmauer, the trail proceeds north along the ridge that separates the Adige Valley from the Val di Cembra. About halfway, it passes through the village of Cauria/Cfrill, where Rifugio Fichtenhof is located. From here, a gentle climb of about 400 meters in elevation leads to Rifugio Malga Monte Corno at the foot of the mountain of the same name.
