From the Diana Hotel, you pass at the base of the north dam and then take the trail that ascends through the beech forest until reaching Passo Forcora (1180m). From there, you climb up to Monte Sirti (1340m) and follow the ridge to Fontana Rossa pass, where you descend to the huts of Monterecchio. Continuing on a dirt road and passing by the Cangili huts, you reach the village of Biegno, the last inhabited area of the Valle Veddasca before the Swiss border. From Biegno, you descend to the huts of Piero and reach the valley floor of the Giona stream at the Piero Bridge (550m), where a steep mule track with 1400 steps climbs the slope up to the village of Monteviasco, which is inhabited year-round despite not being accessible by road, only by cable car.
