After a series of stages at hilly elevations, one of the first stops in the pre-Alpine area appears, going back above 1000 meters above sea level. From the city of Como (along the lake), take the funicular to Brunate, which with its approximately 400 meters of elevation gain offers a magnificent view of Lake Como (for more experienced hikers, it's possible to walk up from Salita Carescione to Brunate). From Brunate, you reach the hamlet of San Maurizio where a long passage called the Sentiero delle Colme begins, characterized by ups and downs, touching on Pizzo dei Tre Termini, Monte Astele, Monte Boletto, and finally the 1320 meters of Monte Bolettone (the latter can be avoided via the sentiero dei Faggi). Along the way, you will encounter Capanna Mara and Rifugio Riella, ideal rest stops for a break. The journey continues to Praga del Cavallo, beyond 1300 meters, before descending to Colma di Sormano where you join the unpaved road leading down to Piano del Tivano.
