A moderate-length stage with a good elevation gain that takes the Sentiero Italia across the head of the Val Soana. This is also the last stage within the Gran Paradiso National Park, established in 1922 on territory that was previously a royal hunting reserve of the Savoy between Piedmont and Aosta Valley. The route leads near the wonderful Pian dell’Azaria, described by writer Mario Rigoni Stern as the “most beautiful place in the world.” A steep climb leads to the Sanctuary of S.Besso, which attracts two pilgrimages a year, with participants from both Piedmont and Aosta Valley, and then to the Colle della Borra, from which one descends to Piamprato, another hamlet of Valprato Soana.
