The first stage in the Province of Biella is rather short, characterized by a descent exclusively. From the Coda Refuge, you cross the wide amphitheater bordered by Monte Mars and Monte Mucrone, arriving at the Bocchetta del Lago from which you descend to Lago del Mucrone and then to the arrival point of the Oropa cable car. From here, the descent continues along the summer trail that leads to the cable car departure and the Sanctuary. This is a Marian Sanctuary dedicated to the Black Madonna that stands on the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Sacred Mountain of Oropa.
