This very short stage with minimal elevation gain marks the beginning of a variation that touches the heads of the Piedmontese valleys, initially passing close to Monte Rosa. From the village of Pedemonte, north of Alagna Valsesia, the valley floor trail is followed, which reaches the Pastore Refuge through several hamlets, all while facing the southern side of Punta Gnifetti.
