Hiking
Another short stage but with a significant elevation change that crosses from Val d’Egua to Val Mastallone. From Carcoforo, the trail follows the path that ascends along the valley of the Egua stream above the village. You pass by several small hamlets before reaching the first refuge, the Paolo Majerna of the Cai di Boffalora. The ascent continues up to Colle d’Egua at an altitude of 2239 meters, near which stands the Bivacco Volpone - Sesone. This is followed by a long descent that takes you from Colle Baranca to Alpe Selle (home to the legendary Villa Aprilia, built by the Lancia family and dedicated to the historic car brand, now a property of the Municipality of Bannio Anzino). Shortly after, you reach Rifugio Alpe Selle and then descend from Lago Baranca to Rifugio Alpe Baranca. You find yourself in a lush valley surrounded by grazing livestock in a village where a series of chalets have been renovated as an alpine refuge.
