You start to climb again with this moderately long stage that features significant elevation gain, overlooking the Ollomont valley. From Saint Rhémy, you take a path that follows the course of the valley on the left side of the stream, gradually gaining altitude before a descent that leads to the village of Eternon Dessous. The day's climb then begins, initially gently along the Menouy stream until reaching the lower Alpe Ponteille, and then steeply with switchbacks from the upper Alpe Ponteille up to the Col de Champillon at 2704 meters, from where a short descent leads to the refuge of the same name.
