Another stage that encircles the urban perimeter of the city of Genoa through a short route with minimal elevation gain, reaching an important junction between the sea and the Po Valley. From Crocetta d’Orero, the path ascends near the summit of Monte Capanna before descending towards the highway, which is crossed by going over the tunnel beneath the pass. The Passo dei Giovi gained strategic importance only after 1823, the year the 'royal road of Giovi' was built, becoming the main connection between Genoa and Turin and Milan. By the mid-nineteenth century, the first railway linking Liguria and Piedmont was also constructed along this route, cutting through the top of the pass with a tunnel.
