Starting from San Pellegrino in Alpe (1,522 m), we deviate from the Sentiero Italia to take the GT9 trail (Garfagnana Trekking – Stage 9) that descends through meadows, immediately after the Sanctuary, then turns into a dirt road that, passing isolated farmhouses, leads to the small village of Valbona. From here, along an ancient mule path, we reach Castiglione di Garfagnana, a splendid example of a medieval settlement still enclosed by its original walls; a visit inside the fortification and through the narrow streets of the historic center is a must. Continuing through meadows and cultivated fields, we reach Marcione and, after crossing the stream, we ascend to the Mills of Pieve Fosciana. Crossing the village, we visit the thermal spring of Prà di Lama, the Lame, and the Church of the Capuchins before entering Castelnuovo di Garfagnana at the height of the Alfieri Theater. From the Church of the Capuchins, taking the descending road on the right leads directly to the Castelnuovo Garfagnana train station (274 m). This is Stage 9 of the Garfagnana Trekking.
