The first part of this stage follows the CAI 529 trail that runs along the lakeshore shaded by beech trees. Before crossing to the other side, the path ascends to the right up to the Boccaia Pass (1587m), a crossroads of numerous trails. From the saddle, it bends left, still on the 529, entering the glacial basin of the "Campi di Annibale". The path then becomes a forest road near the Fontanacce spring, from where you can reach the Tuscan-Emilian ridge at the Passo della Porticciola (1714 m). After the pass, you maintain altitude by going around the southern grassy slope of Cima dell'Omo on the Tuscan trail no.20. At the first junction, you leave trail 20 to the right, climbing the ridge with some zigzags until reaching the Terzino Pass. From here, you continue southwest on the 00 trail of the Tuscan-Emilian ridge, predominantly beyond the tree line except in the sections where you go around the peaks. This section intersects the forest road between Barga and San Anna Pelago at the Saltello Pass, allowing you to climb Monte Saltello, which offers one of the most beautiful views of the Apuan Alps rising to the west beyond the Garfagnana. Alternating between the ridge and the slope to avoid the peaks of the Albano and Spicchio mountains, you intercept the forest road leading to Bocca del Fornello, from where trail 50 descends to San Pellegrino in Alpe, a place worth visiting for its namesake sanctuary. This area offers some pleasant accommodations for overnight stays.
