With this stage of intermediate length and elevation gain, the Sentiero Italia leaves the Lazio region to enter Abruzzo. Starting from Alvito, the trail follows the valley crossed by the regional road of Sora and ascends to the hill between Monte Pietroso and Monte Tranquillo, encountering on the opposite slope the Rifugio di Monte Tranquillo. From the refuge, the descent into the forest begins, traversing the eastern slope before deviating north to descend into the valley bottom of the Sangro River until reaching the village of Pescasseroli.
