A fairly long stage but with a reduced altitude gain that heads north towards Gran Sasso and the eponymous National Park. From Popoli, the route crosses from the valley of the Pescara River to that of the Tirino River, which will be followed against the flow of water for the rest of the stage. Near the village of Bussi sul Tirino, the path moves to the left hydrographic bank, which is followed with some ups and downs until reaching Lake Capodacqua. Here, a wide plain opens up to be crossed northward until reaching the village of Ofena.
