With this medium-length stage and noticeable elevation gain, we approach the border with Molise, traversing the last slopes and valleys of Daunia/Capitanata. We are in the areas of transhumance. From Alberona, we head north towards a saddle situated between the peak of Montauro and t.po Bonavalle; the highest point of the route. From here, with gentle ups and downs, the predominant direction is northwest. We descend until we cross the SS 17 Foggia Campobasso. We encounter a symbol of transhumance, the "Regio Tratturo Lucera-Castel di Sangro," shortly before arriving in Volturara Appula, a medieval village. Leaving the village, we caress the gentle wooded slope (San Cristoforo forest) that descends from the western side of the ridge separating the plain of Lucera from the Tavoliere. With a wide left turn, ascending, we reach San Marco La Catola.
