Another very short stage leading to the slopes of the Partenio Mountains. After an initial ascent, the route descends into the town of Mercogliano, which also originated as a Roman castrum, but was later developed by the Lombards during their rule. Its castle was built after the year 1000 by the Normans. The Italy Trail path continues uphill towards the Sanctuary of Montevergine until it reaches the junction with the road leading to Ospedaletto Irpino.
