Hiking
This stage crosses the Partenio Mountains with a short length but an intermediate elevation gain due to a series of ups and downs characterizing the watershed that overlooks the Gulf of Naples on one side and the interior between Avellino and Benevento on the other. The first part of the stage takes place along the ascent to the Sanctuary of Montevergine, following the paths that cut through the hairpin bends where cyclists from the Giro d'Italia have battled during epic mountain finishes. The monastic complex, founded between the 11th and 12th centuries, was built in the version that can still be seen today between 1952 and 1961. The stage then continues along the ridge, reaching some of the highest peaks of the group, even above 1500 meters in altitude, up to the refuge.
