From San Potito Sannitico, a non-challenging stretch on an asphalt road leads to the town of Piedimonte Matese. The village lies at the foot of Monte Cila, which holds the remnants of a Samnite settlement. The megalithic walls enclosing its southern slope are clearly visible. The journey resumes uphill towards Castello del Matese, taking the ancient mule track near the Ducal Palace of Piedimonte Matese. Just a few more kilometers, alternating between trail and asphalt road, before reaching the village of San Gregorio Matese, the final point of this stage.
