Hiking
The final stage in the Campania region traverses some of the most picturesque locations of the Matese Mountains. Leaving the village of San Gregorio Matese, the route follows an ancient mule track that, after crossing the pass of Monte Raspato, descends into a lush beech forest until it reaches the shores of Lake Matese, the highest karst lake in Italy. From there, a steep climb resumes up to the pass between Colle del Monaco and Monte Crocetta, followed by a gentle descent that leads to Campitello Matese.
