Hiking
The stage begins at the Marian sanctuary of Madonna di Pollino, at an altitude of 1537 meters. The first section (trail 930), which offers splendid views, follows the ridge, passing by the viewpoint where the bronze statue of Maria SS. del Pollino, created by Dutch sculptor Daphné Du Barry, is located. It then reaches the area of Pietra Jaccata and the Jannace gorges, which present a fairytale landscape with fantastic rock formations, giant beeches, moss, and ferns, before reconnecting to the municipal road to Mezzana. The terrain is rocky and partly muddy. After crossing the dirt road, the trail continues along a gentle, intricate slope primarily characterized by shrubby vegetation in the first part, then dense beech forest up to Piano Acqua Tremola, passing by the Fontana di Monte Pelato. In the first part, the ground is earthy with numerous springs making it somewhat muddy; there is also a small crossing. At Acqua Tremola, the path intersects the ridge road leading to Passo di Croce Mancine on the western slopes of Monte Caramola, surrounded by beech woods, pine forests, and beautiful open views of the Frido Valley and the Pollino Massif. The surface is a compacted roadway. After a few hundred meters on the paved road, you arrive at the Arte Pollino site, which hosts the artwork "RB Ride" by Carsten Höller. The final section unfolds on a footpath to the equipped area of Viscigli and then on asphalt and little roads with steps leading to the center of San Severino Lucano, near the main church Maria SS. degli Angeli (at an altitude of 880 meters). The terrain is mixed with occasional muddy patches.
