Hiking
From the Conserva refuge, along the ski slope, you reach Lake Laudemio, a small glacial cirque lake at the base of the northern slope of the Sirino Massif. Following the now-disused ski track, the ascent to Monte Papa begins, the highest peak of the Massif (2005 m), where the view can extend over the surrounding Apennine ridges, from Val D'Agri to Cilento, to Pollino. The path then descends towards the seventeenth-century chapel of the Madonna di Sirino (1907 m). From this important Marian sanctuary (the highest in Basilicata) overlooking the Gulf of Policastro, it is possible to see in the distance the significant Sanctuary of Novivelia on Monte Gelbison, in the Cilento Park. Here, a stop is recommended, but it is also possible to camp in the designated areas for occasional guests and pilgrims. The Marian devotion for the Madonna di Sirino is very strong in Lagonegro: by tradition, the statue of the protector is carried in procession on shoulders up to the summit, every year on the third Sunday of June, to be brought back down on the third Sunday of September, welcomed in the village with a great celebration. Leaving the Sanctuary, the path resumes towards Lake Sirino, paying close attention after the first two hairpin bends to the horizontal signage to deviate from the main route that leads instead to Madonna del Brusco and continue to Lake Sirino on the route called Monte Sirino-Porto di Maratea. Water supply is possible at the Cardonera spring (1283 m) and at the Sambuco fountain near the highway underpass. The last stretch before reaching the lake is a bike path created on the old railway track.
