Starting from Lake Sirino, you pass by the springs that feed it - where it's possible to collect water from a source - gaining the few dozen meters of elevation needed to reach the former Calabro Lucano railway line, now a bike path and part of the "Regional Hiking Trail Network" (trail no. 660). From here, you continue towards Lagonegro for about 6.5 km along the bike trail that closely follows the Provincial Road of Calabria SP19, crossing it just before the locality of Monticello, where a large concrete cross stands, rebuilt for the Jubilee of 2000; you continue leaving the monumental cross on your right and, after passing the former Rivello railway station, cross the "SP Lagonegrese Superiore." About 1 km from Lagonegro, the bike path merges onto the paved road for about 600 meters until reaching the base of the large rock of the Castle of Lagonegro, then along a narrow path, you arrive at the base of the staircase that leads up to the fortress. After passing the old wash house with fountain, you proceed through ancient alleys to the disused railway station from which you take the ancient Lagonegro-Madonna degli Angeli-Rivello trail. The first section, up to the former convent of Madonna degli Angeli, is easily navigable and well maintained. The former convent, renovated in 2000, is now a hospitality facility where it's possible to stay. From the former convent, you cross the bed of a small stream and follow a cliff to reach the locality of Cammartino, then to Verneto and finally to Rivello.
