Hiking
A challenging route in terms of distance and elevation, starting from the birthplace of Corrado Alvaro, climbing through the narrow alleys of the ancient houses in the village of San Luca, leading towards the mountains while traversing one of the most rugged sections of Aspromonte, offering stunning panoramic views of Pietra Cappa (the tallest monolith in Europe, the “Great Stone” par excellence of the Aspromonte Geopark included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks) and Pietra Lunga. Together with other nearby monoliths (Pietra Castello, Pietra di Febo, Pietra Tonda, the Rocks of San Pietro, and Pietra Drione), they form the Valley of the Great Stones. After passing Pietra Lunga, you descend towards a stream, cross it, and continue past the Casello di San Giorgio along a ridge that leads to Serro Alto (1057 m) and Serro Cropanelli (1320 m). The trail becomes gentler as it approaches just below Monte Scorda (1572 m), continuing downhill through Monte Misafumera (1390 m) until reaching the Zervò plain, where the former sanatorium Vittorio Emanuele III (1167 m) built in 1929 is located amid a beech forest. Overnight stay options are available.
