Hiking
After leaving the town of Mongiana, you reach Ferdinandea through beautiful forests of fir, beech, pine, and chestnut trees. Ferdinandea was an extraordinary ironworks established by the Bourbons and dedicated to Ferdinand II for the production of cast iron. The urban complex, still interesting today for its architecture, includes the hunting lodge, the foundry, the barracks, the stables, and the horse stables. Then you follow the ancient paths used to transport the granite stones that characterize the area, which were used to adorn the buildings of Serra San Bruno, the capital of the Serre, founded back in 1094 during the Norman period. Don't miss: the Certosa, where some cloistered monks still live today.
