This segment is of medium length and elevation gain, leading into the first foothills of the Sila National Park. The route is entirely uphill, predominantly along paved and dirt roads, bringing you back up in altitude. Along the trail, you cross the dam of the large artificial reservoir of Lago Passante, and then enter the Park, home to the main mountain tourism center of Catanzaro, built as early as the beginning of the last century, featuring wooden chalets in Alpine style. From the 1950s and 60s onward, Villaggio Mancuso grew further with the construction of hotels and larger accommodations where today's hikers on the Sentiero Italia CAI can spend the night.
