A short stage characterized by a mainly downhill elevation change, except for an initial gain of about 200 meters. The route follows a trail entirely along the ridge of the Catena Costiera, through very wild forests that lead to the road descending to Guardia Piemontese. In these areas, in the 12th century, communities of Waldensians from the Piedmont valleys settled. Their presence created a linguistic island where Occitan dialects descended from the Langue d’Oc are still spoken today.
