The first proper mountain stage of the Sentiero Italia in Sicily is of medium length and elevation gain. From Masseria Dammusi, the trail leads into the heights that surround the city of Palermo, passing through a saddle located between Monte Matassara Renna and Pizzo della Nespola. For the first time, the trail reaches an altitude of 1000 meters before descending to cross the national road between Palermo and Sciacca. The ascent resumes, returning once again above 1000 meters above sea level near Grotta del Garrone. The route then descends towards Piana degli Albanesi, the main town of a region that is home to the largest Albanian community in Italy.
