With this moderately long stage and a decent elevation gain, the Sentiero Italia regains altitude as it delves into the Madonie Park, reaching again over 1500 meters in elevation. Starting from the town of Scillano, the trail skirts the northwestern slope of Cozzo di Castellazzo before tackling a steep climb up to a saddle northeast of Monte Fanusi. Along a rugged plateau, you reach the Vallone Giumenta forest shelter, from which a valley between Pizzo Colla and Cozzo Piombino leads to Provincial Road 119. After a semi-loop around Monte Mufara, you reach its northern slope where the ski resort of Piano Battaglia and the Giuliano Marini shelter for overnight stays are located.
