Hiking
The stage starts from the town of Petralia Sottana, right in the center, in front of the CAI notice board, next to the pharmacy on Corso Paolo Agliata. Petralia has a CAI section where you can get the necessary assistance and appropriate information by calling the section's phone numbers (328/138.32.53, 349/222.72.62). The path ascends towards the municipal aqueduct near the pine forest, at Fontana Bianca where there is a spring. From here, a dirt road leads to the ancient arches of Petralia Soprana (the old aqueduct). You can also visit the center of Petralia Soprana (voted the most beautiful village of 2018 by RAI 3), which has a CAI welcoming point about a kilometer away, and then continue towards Portella Ferrone Savochella, where there is a crucifix and access to Pizzo Catarineci via a forest gate. Our route continues east along the dirt road towards Portella Bifolchi, rising and leveling out - along the way, there is a natural attraction called the "ancient Gorgo di Pollicino," a resting area for migratory birds - until you descend to intersect with SS 286 towards Geraci Siculo (which can be visited a few kilometers on the left). You continue straight along the small inter-municipal road where a water trough is located. The descent continues alongside the paved road on a dirt track with a natural surface, where you access through a hand-operated gate marked with a CAI sign. After a few kilometers, you descend on a road that is initially paved and then dirt towards the Rainò valley. Following the red and white signage downhill, on a dirt road you arrive at Contrada Raino', a stopping place where an indicative sign is located. Next, to the right, less than a kilometer away, is Agriturismo Villa Rainò 0921/64.46.80, named after the area, where you can eat and sleep. The area also has Agriturismo San Pietro and other accommodations. Gangi (PA) is the reference town, awarded the title of the most beautiful village in Italy in 2014, with Tourist Office/Pro Loco number 0921/50.14.71.
