A moderately long segment with a decent elevation gain that traverses the Nebrodi Mountains, the largest protected area in Sicily.
The segment begins at Sella del Contrasto; it climbs openly at the base of the western slope of Monte Castelli (1566 m a.s.l.) before turning towards Pizzo Bidi (1600 m a.s.l.). Without reaching its summit, it passes through a dense beech forest from the saddle that separates it from Cozzo della Frasca and continues north of Monte Pomiere, crossing the Bosco della Tassita, a very scenic spot of particular botanical significance, concluding at Portella dell’Obolo (1506 m a.s.l.), where it intersects SP 168, from which a shuttle can take you to the town of Capizzi, located about 8 km away.
There are no natural obstacles along the route apart from some metal fencing to prevent animal passage, which is easily opened and closed.
