On this intermediate stage with primarily downhill elevation gain, we take the variant of the main route of Sentiero Italia, which encircles Mount Etna, the highest volcano in Europe, in 7 stages. Starting from the village of Floresta, we leave the Nebrodi Mountains along the valley formed by the Alcantara River. After reaching the summit of Monte Pietracavalcata, we arrive at the banks of the river, which we follow downhill before a brief ascent that leads to the Santa Maria dei Boschi refuge. From there, we descend to the village of Randazzo.
