Hiking
The final stage of the Etna variant heads north to reconnect with the ridge of the Peloritani Mountains. From Moio Alcantara (524 m above sea level), you will reach Malvagna by skirting the Moio mountain (628 m above sea level), an eccentric ancient volcano located away from the Etna area. This little volcano is worth a visit. Upon reaching Malvagna (about 700 m above sea level) and passing through the town, near the cemetery, head towards the bike path that leads into the mountainous area. After crossing the Ruggirotto stream (around 5 km from the start), at the equipped area, turn right; here the climb becomes demanding, covering about 5 km with an elevation gain of approximately 450 m, reaching Pizzo Palo at an altitude of 1325 m above sea level. Here we find ourselves on the ridge of the Bosco di Malabotta, which offers a very scenic view to the east, while the western slope is covered by a dense forest. Continuing on, you will surpass Pizzo Petrolo (1338 m above sea level), the scenic Pizzo Voturi (1325 m above sea level), and Pizzo di Croce Mancina (1340 m above sea level). A little further, at Monte Cerreto (1288 m above sea level), you will find the patriarchs of the forest, spectacular ancient specimens of oak. Stop and enjoy the wonderful panorama. Continuing for another 800 m, in the Fradaro area, you will reconnect with the SI V24 stage that links Montalbano Elicona to Novara di Sicilia.
