The original stage is quite long, about 28 km, so it has been divided into two parts. The 21A represents the longest stretch, approximately 17 km, and is well-suited to welcome hikers at the end of the stage in the village of Ulassai, home of the artist Maria Lai and a location with numerous climbing routes of varying difficulty. The starting point is near the municipal park, which also has a fountain. The hike begins with a climb along a well-defined trail, with the first goal being the Nuraghe Serbissi at an altitude of 947 meters above sea level. After leaving the Nuraghe, managed by a local cooperative, the path descends and then follows a gentle up-and-down trail that leads us to the Nuraghe Urceni (934 meters above sea level). At the fork in the trail, we head south and after a brief stop at the Urceni fountain, we continue towards the San Giorgio hotel (open only in the summer). After a few hundred meters, there is an opportunity to take a break at the picnic area near the abundant spring of Sa Brecca. Along the route to the parking area of the Su Marmuri cave, we encounter the Nuraghe Sanu, which currently does not offer many opportunities as it has not yet been subject to archaeological excavations. From the parking area of the cave, we travel a short stretch of paved road before taking the path that, skirting the sports field, reveals a beautiful panorama overlooking the village. This final stretch is known as the trail of Maria Lai. It is a very scenic stage suitable for hikers who are reasonably trained, with the warning that the final segment (from the sports field onwards) is exclusive to experienced hikers as there are two exposed stretches (though a steel cable is present).
